What is softkey international?

Softkey International was a software publishing company that was founded in 1984 by brothers Michel and Adrian Bouvier. The company was based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and became one of the largest software distributors in the world during the 1990s.

Softkey International was known for acquiring smaller software companies and consolidating their products under the Softkey brand. Some of their most popular acquisitions included The Learning Company, Broderbund, and Mindscape. Softkey International also developed educational software for children under the brand name "Edmark".

In 1996, Softkey International acquired The Learning Company, which was one of their biggest acquisitions to date. The new company was renamed The Learning Company and became a subsidiary of Softkey International. However, the acquisition led to financial difficulties for Softkey International, and in 1999, the company was acquired by Mattel for $3.8 billion. The Learning Company was later rebranded as Mattel Interactive.

Today, Softkey International no longer exists as a standalone company, but its legacy lives on in the software products and educational games that the company produced during its time in operation.
